Why We Have This Role at Koala
Koala is on a mission to be the most loved DTC brand in Japan, and our next big leap is to become the #1 consumer brand in Japan for social media. To do that, we’re hiring a dedicated Social Creative Lead to own and scale this critical function.
This is a senior, hands-on role. You are as comfortable generating ideas and building concepts as you are overseeing production and shipping high volumes of creative. You work with internal members & external freelancers to deliver work that is fast, distinctive, and designed to perform at scale across social platforms.

Organic content that feels native to IG Reels/TikTok/Shorts and is designed to earn attention in-feed
Creator-led content designed for volume, iteration and learning (even when creators have small or no followings)
Lightweight, repeatable content formats that build Koala’s cultural presence in Japan (without relying on high-production episodic video)
Real-life product storytelling that is culturally relevant to Japan
Creative systems that consistently identify organic winners and graduate them into paid
Role Description
Build a creator-led organic engine in Japan: Create a repeatable system to ship high volumes of native content weekly, driven by creators and Koala’s internal team.
Grow “Qualified Reach” and cultural relevance: Increase meaningful reach among people in the life moments and home contexts Koala is built for, through consistent, culturally relevant creative for Japan.
Feed the organic-to-paid flywheel: Systematically surface organic winners and graduate them into paid social, with clear handoffs and learnings.
Key Responsibilities
Social Creative Leadership (Organic)
Own creative strategy and execution for Koala Japan’s organic social (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts)
Build repeatable formats that earn attention and fit Koala’s brand voice and cultural context in Japan
Be the ‘ideas person’ for social: generating new ideas for content on a daily/weekly/monthly basis
Creator Engine & Production
Recruit and manage a roster of creators (no follower minimum), write briefs, and drive fast iteration
Oversee production and editing to ship high-volume content weekly
Be a hands on creator: utilizing skills for editing & content creation
Flywheel & Cross-Functional Impact
Identify organic winners weekly and graduate them into paid with the paid/performance creative team
Share learnings, build internal social capability, and manage external partners and budget
Ideal background
A Social-First Creative Operator: You deeply understand how platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and emerging social formats actually work. You know how creative needs to be structured, paced, and produced to earn attention in-feed, not just look good in a deck. You can flex ideas across organic and paid social without losing clarity, craft, or intent.
A Natural Experimenter and Early Adopter: You are curious by default and comfortable operating at the edge of what’s new. You enjoy experimenting with emerging platforms, formats, and tools, including AI and new production workflows, and you are comfortable learning in public. You test, learn, and adapt quickly, using experimentation to stay ahead of platform shifts rather than waiting for playbooks to be written.
Entrepreneurial Mindset: Someone willing to get their hands dirty to start something ‘from scratch’: you will likely be in charge of launching our TikTok from scratch and other future new channels
Insight-Led and Audience-Obsessed: You are tuned into culture, behaviour, and platform trends, and you know how to turn insight into social ideas people want to watch, share, and engage with. Your work is grounded in audience understanding and performance signals, not personal taste or recycled trends.
A Leader and Collaborator: You’ve led or grown social creative teams and know how to give clear direction, raise the bar, and maintain momentum in a fast-moving environment. You work closely with marketing, growth, brand, and media teams to ensure social creative ladders back to broader business goals.
Comfortable With Ambiguity: You thrive in fast-moving environments where platforms, formats, and priorities change quickly. You are energised by blank pages and evolving briefs, and you can create structure, repeatable formats, and momentum where none exists yet.
On the Tools: you’ve got hands on social video editing experience on relevant software such as CapCut and/or iMovie etc
